i read on american muscles website that i cannot use the SCT tuner to recalibrate my spedometer on my 1996 gt because they are saying that the spedometer is driven by the spedo gear and the guages didnt change to digital until like 1999. is this true?

would it make sense to get the gears done by a shop(because i hear that they are hard to do right if you havent done them before) and just change the spedo gear out myself?

Yes, let them do the gear install... And PLEASE DO NOT buy one of those cheap speedo gears... Most of the time, they don't even work too well.

http://www.dallasmustang.com/page/speedcal.php, pick up one of those($100) and DIY in your driveway.. Very simple to do and the speedo will be dead accurate, oh and they can also fix for non stock ratio size tires..

you can do the speedo gear yourself it takes about 10minutes i did mine myself
