you don't need a "custom dyno" tune to get good power. chip manufactures tune so many cars they know what needs to be done with a "stock" car to get power out of it, they know what kinda tune to run on a car with simple bolt-ons as well. You call them, tell them your mods, and they'll send you a good "safe" chip. Now, it won't be as aggressive as a dyno tune because their gonna wanna give themselves some room in the a/f category for safety - but they'll get you damn close. Sure a custom tune is better - but that doesn't mean you can't get a GREAT tune via an "over the phone" chip. Gains of 10 - 12 rwhp at peak and evev 15+ rwhp through the whole curve are not uncommon. Try getting that with just a timing adjustor

It is VERY do-able to tune your car w/o a dyno if you have a digital wideband on your car. The digital wideband tells you the same thing the dyno does. With a dig wideband and a friend and some time, you can tune it to within 1% on the street. To do this right you need a way to adjust the timing (you already hace a timing adjuster) and a way to adjust the air/fuel ratio on the fly. A pro M MAF tuner allows for this.

The only added thing the dyno will do for you is give you rwhp.
I agree. You don't need a dyno to set timing, any competent person can set a safe, strong amount of timing into the car and the only other thing that needs to be set is a/f at WOT and with a wideband you can do that. You don't have to tune by the seat of the pants, nobody can "feel" 2hp but you don't need to. Just tune your fuel pressure or injector pulse width to get the right a/f and set your timing and your done. Its not rocket science.
