Default Part from OEM shifter, what does it do?

I was looking through the bag I had which had all my MGW parts and I saved a part from my OEM shifter but I'm not sure where it goes. Looks like it may be a part that goes before the **** is screwed on the handle. It's NOT the little black plastic part that is inside the actual shift ****. Here is a bit, sorry about the extreme light, I forgot to turn off my flash:

No it's definately not the black plastic cup on the bottom of the shifter. I am sure this piece is part that goes on the handle but I can't quite figure out if he goes UNDER the outer shifter boot or on the outside screwed on the bottom of the handle. My camera doesn't take good close ups but here are a couple more pics

Nope that piece is already inside the shift ****. I ended up putting the black rubber piece you see in the pics between my shift **** and my outer shift cover/boot. Seems to reduce some vibration and shifts seem smoother too... then again I did adjust my MGW tonight (moved it to 8:30). Reverse, 1st and 5th are a bit smoother now. It will have to do.
