Default Gear Install

I'm getting some 3:73's installed on Tuesday. I want to use Royal Purple gear oil.
What weight do I need?
Is there another gear oil that is better?

I'm also in need of an oil change soon.
What's the best weight for the hot summers in Vegas?
What's the best oil to use? Mobil 1 Synthetic or Royal Purple
What's the best oil filter?
Can I use Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer with the Mob. 1 or RP oil?

the shop that you are getting the gears installed at will know the weight of gear oil to use. i reccomend nothing but royal purple gear oil, it comes with friction modifier already added, as far as oil goes, just use what the factory specifies, you should be fine, again i would go with royal purlple, thats what i run and its the best stuff out there. K&N makes a really good oil filter but they are pretty pricey. with your mods you should be fine with fram or even motorcraft though

The gear oil weight is 75w-90. I used Royal Purple, great stuff.

75W-140 is the factory spec for the gear oil.As for the engine oil I would use 10W-30 synthetic in summertime Vegas--I know that saying this will likely elicit a number of responses about staying with 5W-20, however here in Florida there are no performance shopsI've found that wouldrecommend 5W-20 for summer use (or year-round for that matter). It's a nice generic weight that meets the basic needs of Americans from Alaska to Death Valley, but when you are consistently operating in 90°F to 110°F+ ambient temps (heck, 140° at the road surface) the 10W30 synthetic will do a better job. It's also fine down to 25°F or so which is 10° colder than it's ever gotten here.
