Sudden open cell in battery...
I had an odd one happen on Saturday; started up and drove from home to a sub shop (a couple miles), started up again and drove to Ace hardware (1-1/2 miles back toward home)--then came out of Ace, turned the key and nothing...Back in to Ace to buy a cheap multimeter, 12.0V (low) with everything off, 1.8V with the headlights on. Electrolyte levels were as they should be and there had been no warning signs, obviously it just decided to drop an internal cell-to-cell connection. This was the original Motorcraft battery (4 years and 44k old) so there's no shame in it, but I've never in modern times had a battery fail like this--has anyone else had the OEM battery just up and die?BTW--the folks at Ace were fantastic, gave me a ride to AdvanceAuto and back, and even a cold Coke when I was done!

RE: Sudden open cell in battery...
How is 12V low when the battery is 12V? I mean, obviously the battery went bad, but 12V isn't low. You're probably thinking it's low because the alternator runs 14V, but the battery is still only 12V.
