Default question about gauges

I was looking into getting an a-pillar with 3 pods for gauges. First, I see RPM outlet says these are only for hard tops. Why couldn't a convertable have one of these installed?

Second, I know the only worthwhile a/f gauges are wide band ones, but are the ones autometer sells completely worthless or are they just not as precise. I would love to have a way to monitor my a/f mixture during a passsince I run nitrous. Would these gauges be a good way to make sure I am not running too lean or rich during a run even though they may not be exact or are they not even close to accurate?
