Cam Chain tensioner

RE: Cam Chain tensioner
I'd even call it more of a rattle than a tap. It's not consistent and rhythmical, and you're most likely to hear it when you're jumping on it hard. By the way, it's the timing chain. You can probably find timing chain tensioners at most auto parts stores, however I don't know what brands would be considered reliable. For the amount of work you'd have to do to swap out something as simple as the tensioners, I'd make sure you get something good the first time. The problem is that they are hydraulically pumped up by the oil, with a secondary backup by spring. When they get older and fail they don't hold their oil pressure as well and let slack in the line. The springs pick up to help but aren't sufficient alone for long term.

Its a tap. When u rev the engine the tap goes with it. But the timing chain has alot of slack. No metal shavings in the oil pan. Like i said i thought i spun a bearing but that is not so. Thats the first thing we checked.

One of the chains will have a little slack in it at any given time while the other side will be tight. The tapping could be a valve tap. The timing chain will rattle, not tap. And if you want to replace them you'll have to buy them through Ford. No one else makes them.
