So I've been reading up on these engines and thought that I would ask a question. I have been looking to buy a high mileage 99' or 01' cobra for some time now and was wondering about the engine blocks and internals. This recent thread has peaked my interests https://mustangforums.com/m_3184043/tm.htm. What I am planing to do is buy a stock or near stock cobra and buy a cobra engine and t-56. I would then rebuild that engine with forged internals and cams and the works to prepare it for heavy FI. What are the best blocks out of all of the cobra 4.6s? I have herd that the blocks from the 95 - 98 are very strong but I was also wondering about the 03's and 04's Iron blocks. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yeah the teksid would be the best bet. Its strong and nice and light. However the iron blocks will alsotake just about anything you can throw at them.

They make ferrari blocks too, right? I'm looking to be able to smoke an enzo when I'm done with the whole endevor(probably like 15 years lol).

Yea I've got a 3.0L(vulcan engine cast iron block and heads ohv) ranger right now and that engine will take a beating and run like new.

So the teksid or the iron, that is the question? what block does a 99' cobra have?

If your goal is to be a ferrari-eater, go aluminum...you'll need all the help you can get. The iron is good and could probably hold up to what your planning on throwing at it, but it doesn't have the edge aluminums weight has. The teksid block is rumored to hold 900+ hp well. Forge it out and get a good set of heads. 99, 01 cobras have an aluminum block that's a little weaker in design. Keep in mind too that Sean Hyland Motorsports offers their own version of the 4.6 in aluminum, don't know it's improvements/problems...you could call and ask if you were that serious.

Ford Racing sells the Ford GT 5.4L aluminum block for $4000.
VT Engines sell Teksid blocks ready for building for $400-ish

The 96-98 Cobra block is the best possible choice weighing in at only 75lbs and can handle over 1200hp with proper preperation. The 93-98 Mark VIII engine is the same casting number as the 96-98 but it comes with cast internals and a 6 bolt cast crank. The heads are the same B-series heads used on the 96-98 Cobra and the intake is some weird bundle of snakes front mount system that actually works out pretty good.

That sounds like a really good deal, are they allready preped to handle 1200hp? The The 93-98 Mark VIII engine sounds good also because I would be redoing all of the internals, probably a 5.0 stroker. Will the heads and intake from a 99' or 01' cobra bolt right up? How much do you think one of those Mark VIII engines would cost me? Kenne bell sells a 2.8 sc for the 03's and 04's, would I be able to make that work with my setup? I'm also considering twin turbosas well. This will be a long project and wight now I'm just looking at blocks.
