Suspected Odometer scam on a 97 Cobra Im looking at. Opinions?
I just ran a Carfax on a '97 Cobra Im looking at. The mileage at 9/7/06 is the EXACT same as it read right now, today, down to the exact mile. The guy let it slip that his wife has been driving it since they got it. Pretty obvious, huh? The funny thing is, he encouraged me to get the VIN and run the carfax.
Any thoughts? Thanks

He could of went to a salavge and got a guage cluster and a computer from a wecked mustang and put it in his car while he had it.Then put theold ones backin it and it would read the same mileage when he first bought it

Also, there could be electronic reprogrammers, but non that I know of that can do that (anything is possible though).

I think the simplest answer is usually the correct one. Hes' a used car dealer, so he knows about the relation between mileage and value, and he disconnected the speedo. But I guess anything is possible.

The speedo and odo are stock analog guages, theres no way to reprogram it. The car is (was) a good deal until I found this out. I guess if a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is....

Thats probably what he usually does...
Look on the bright side though, how much could she possibly have driven it since September? If she drove the hell out of it she might have put 10K on, probably more like 3-4K miles. Of course, if he is shady enough to do that, he is shady enough to do worse.
