Default notchy tranny when cold, normal?

Hey, well it's getting pretty cold here in NY, was in the mid 20's all yesterday. Well anyways, I noticed my tranny feels pretty notchy when it's cold, esspecially shifting from first to second. It's more so when the tranny is cold and seems to get better a few miles down the road, but still does it a little. I never noticed it in the warmer months, just started to notice it the last few weeks. Think it's due to the cold weather, or is something breaking? But yea, when cold all the gears feel a little notchy, but shifting from first to second in a slower fashion, just cruising, it's like it almost kicks before it goes in to second, like the syncho's are a little off, but when it warms up, that little kick goes away and it just feels a little notchy...anyone else experience this? My car is a '96 and about 83Kmi strong, haha. Whatcha' guys think?

yes thats normal. Early 3650 trannies (like mine) have a real tough time with 2nd gear in the cold - I will grind 2nd unless wait for the revs to drop and match 2nd gear. After about 10 mins of driving when the car warms up its fine. Shift slow until the car's warm if you want your syncro's and gears to last.

Cedar, my T-5 has the same thing. Thats another reason i dont drive her in the cold. Nothing wrong with it. And MD, the 01 1/2- 04 3650's had a wicked problem with them. Including the 2nd gear grind, clunk, 3rd gear "wall". There is a TSB ( NOT recall) about it. There are a ton of disastified GT drivers around my shop. I have already done 2 GT's and a Mach. They do love them again when they get them back though. lol.

Might be time to put some nice fluid in that tranny. Some fluids act better with cold temps

Ya i got a 2004 mach 1 and when I havent taken it out for about three weeks and the temperature is about 15 degrees celcius i feel the difference when shifting in the low gears. All you need to do is just give your car about 10-15 minutes of driving and then it should be fine. even when im cruising wiuth mine i fell it rough i know what you mean.

i've seen this topic come up alot all over the place. some people were getting spectacular resutls, or so they claimed, by reducing the fluid level from 4 to 3.2 liters. don't know about the validity. i get some minor notchines when its cold (1-2 shift) not enough to warrant any real concern. but i'd like to know what you guys think about idea of draining some fluid.

My 03 is going back to the dealer Tuesday for this problem, it just turned 15,000 miles yesterday. We shall see what he says.
