@#$%ING H PIPE!!!!!!
[sm=rant.gif]
After missing out on the GAP cruise and effectivley ruiningmine and my girl'sweekend, I thought I'd reflect on why...
Last Saturday while down at GTR performance waiting to have my Steeda pullies installed (damn crank pulley would not come off, but that's a whole other debacle) I bump into a guy returning his 2000 GT back to stock because he was selling it. As it turns out, he had a Mac o/r H coming off. I took a quick look at it and gave him $70 for it. Not too bad, right?
Wrong. After getting everything on, I say a quick prayer to the snake gods, fire it up and behold the mighty @#$%ING EXHAUST LEAK! [:@]
I knew I did everything right. Everything. After going through and re-loosening and re-tightening everything from the manifold back twice, still leaked. Bad. Like, heard from two blocks away bad.
After spending the day at the only exhaust shop that wanted to do it, I just had him put the stockH back on. Then while pulling out, I threw a code. I haven't checked it yet because insurance companies ask too many questions when they find cars at the bottom of 200 foot cliffs.Total $ wasted: $195.00 Total time wasted: 12 hours. Total cruises missed: 1.
Becauseof a barely noticeable tweak in the socket at the drivers side manifold and a very "@#$% it" attitude, it was trash. Just as well, it was embarrassinglysmelly and (I really never thought I'd say this) too loud with my Flow AT catback.
Moral of the story?Be careful when buying used equipment.
Any catted H pipe recommendations?
