Default FR500 Cams VS Comp XE-R 278 -Need TOTAL FR500 specs plz-

Hey Everyone;

I was looking through different 4V cams and I cam accross the Comp cams XE-R 278. I will list a discription of it and then you can give me your opinion.

My question is, for an NA smog regulated motor (California) which cam would be best on my 5.3L stroker? The FR500 or the Comp?
My goal is to get at least 500rwhp. There are many many many supporting modifications and these heads are fully ported with a fully ported Mach1 intake with the bells ported as well..

I know the FR500 cams are .472/.472" but thats all I know, if somone could give me all the rest of the specs and the RPM range it is suppose to have I would be happier

I was actually wanting my powerband to go to about 7250rpms, anyone know what the FR500's powerband is?

Here is the comp XE-R specs.

I know the FR500 cams were meant to be streetable and 50 state legal so I am just wondering how well they stack up against these, their exhaust lift is for sure higher.

Also what do you guys know about the GT40 cams? I know they are .470/.470" and thats it, I dont know anything else about them, I would really like full specs of those and the FR500's.

Do you think it would matter much that I am a NA car and those are for a supercharged car?

Thanks agian.

You should be getting a custom ground cam with your setup. The generic cams are best IMO for simple setups, but on your stroker your going to need a custom cam to develop the most power.

Most places will grind a custom cam for the same price as a generic cam, all you need to do is find a good shop (MPH, THR, etc) that can set you up with a good cam card for your custom grind.

Gotcha, thanks for the advice, I think I will go that way then

To be truthful I am kinda scared when it comes to cams, I really dont know that much about them as apposed to everything else, they change how the car acts and drives so damn much that for me it seems like a really big "What If" puttingthem in.

Its not that im just stupid about them either, i just dont have the confidence to do it.

Simply going with a stroker setup is gonna do that, but a stock cam in a stroker is gonna run like CRAP.

Your going to be pulling alot more RPM (hopefully) than the stock assembly, and even with a stock motor the stock cams fall off around 5500 RPM. I didn't gain much until about 5500, but it really took off there, even on a stock motor. I picked up liek 15 WHP peak, but I picked up 30+ WHP at redline (6000 RPM)

Damn, I never knew they fell off so quickly.
Do you think its the same for the 4V cams too? I know they are only .397/.397"

Im actually trying to get usable RPS's to around 7-7250 but I havnt found any cams that go past 65 and 6800, thats good enough though because I dont want to lose too much low end and I have seen any that sold both low and high end problems.

Going by that when I have my custom cams made I wont expect the world lol.
