When you spin your tires with traction control on, the computer pulls out timing and reduces fuel to the engine. This is a major no no with s/c, turbo, or nitrous.

I always heard that your traction control was done through your brake being applied in sequiences to reduce your wheel spin

If you try to launch with TC on the car will automatically bog. Fall flat on its face. Not only will it result in a bad 60' and bad ET, but its also bad on your clutch, transmission, and rear end. Always turn it off whenever you go to the track.
