I dont have a modern stang but I'm pretty sure the stang has a negative ground system, my ranger does. Why would ford put a positive groung system? On positive ground systems, you should allways disconnect the positive cable first. On negative ground systems, you allways disconnect the negative cable first.

actually Quicktime, it can run with the battery disconneted. one time my dad's battery died in his truck and we didn't have jumper cables, so i pulled up, left my car running and took the battery out so i could put it in his truck and start it
