well if i do a compression test on it, it should tell me if it the block is still good right? if the block is still good then that gives me a good reason to do do heads and cams since the headsare smoking?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a compression test tells you if your pistons or rings are bad since that is where the compression is. Even if you get a compression test and the results arebad, you still shouldnt need to replace the block, just the pistons.

Not sure if anyone already said it, but valve seals could be pooping. It's a common thing for 4.6's from what I've heard.

If it is only smoking on take0off after idleing fopr a min. then it's a better chance it's your valve seals. My old npi did that too with about 100k miles.

On startup after sitting (like overnight) its probably valve seals. If it smokes badly as you take off at every light, its probably the piston rings & that means time for a rebuild.
