Well the motor has 12000+ miles on it. When you start it up or take off from a light it leaves a cloud of smoke. Also I have to put oil every month.Do you think i can just get away with new heads or do you think the block needs to be re done?

Probably Blow-by. You will need new piston rings, and might as well put new pistons in as well. Your heads shouldnt have anything to do with that.

its a 97 get ...it has 120k on it

it should be alright as long as its not burning a bunch of oil, You will know when everything should bereplaced because your car will start to miss and start fouling sparkplugs, thats if you have blow-by

most commonly on our cars its the valve seals, mine is just starting to burn oil. Put some 10w40 in it, it will help not burn as much because its not as thing so it doesnt seep through the valve seals.
