Need Advice: Came across engine for sale
I came across an 03 cobra engine that is in a car a guy is parting out because of water damage. He says the engine is running fine now but hehadto change plugs, injectors, coils, wires etc... to get it that way. My question is if I can get a good deal on it, should I take the chance? How much can water hurt an engine and transmission?

yes get it . change the oil often every 1200 miles or so at first . take off the oil pan , valve covers and check for condensation . good luck . I bought a flooded vette and its still running .

If the water did not hyrdrolock the engine, and he has already cranked it and changed all that, then about 60% of the battle is already won. Like it has been said, change the oil alot, put some seafoam in the oil 200 miles before each change for a bit, do a compression test. Compression test is the biggest, it will tell you if the engine needs a rebuild. Listen to the engine and make sure it does not knock, and if it doesnt, pick it up cheap at swap in that monster. Then sell me your 01 4v engine

exactly, its not forged LOL, he wants a bit much for it versus the risk in my book, so Im not gonna go with it. Back to the old forged rebuild. Speaking of which how can you tell if you've got a teksid block? I heard that some of the 99/01s came with a weaker WAP block. I think theres a way by looking in the intake valley but is there anyway of telling that wouldnt involve taking off the intake manifold and all the little bells and whistles that go with?
