Default Car not handling with new wheels/tires...any help.

Hey Guys, I just bought a set of 18x9/10 FR500 wheels for my car. The dealer I got them from had a set of 265/35/18 Yokohama AVS Sport tires that were discontinued and on for way less then half price. (about 115US/tire). The 265's on the back with a 10" rim isn't enough, the rim is too wide for the tire, will this cause my car to handle funny. It feels like i'm constantly correcting when driving, like the car follows the road, where my stock tiresdrove great.

Would like to know your thoughts, if its the rear tires doing this, i'm planning on getting 295's as soon as I can find a set used, if tires wouldn't do this, could it be offsets?? The wheels are for a 99-04 mustang.

Wider and lower profile tires tend to tramline more than narrower and higher profile tires, that's a fact. What were you running previously?I don't think the 265s on the 10" wheels are helping either, although 10" seems to be the maximum allowable width for that tire according to the Falken and Summito catalogs I have.

I had the factory Bullet's on before with 245's all around. I'm really hoping its the tires on the back. The sidewall isn't square and the rim is exposed, the fronts look fine with the 9" wheel.

Anyone have a set of 295's they wanna sell? 18"

I have the same size wheels with 265s in front and 295s in back. My car handles great but tends to dart sometimes on uneven roads. Bigger tires on the back will definitely help.

Thanks sonic, I was hoping someone with the same combo I have would chime in. Guess its time to find a set of 295's. I also lowered the car and am gonna post pics with the new wheels and lowered, makes a huge difference on these cars.

If you haven't had it aligned since you lowered it you should. If you loweredit more than 1-1/2" to 2" you'll probably need CC plates to be able to align it properly, and should look in to "bump steer" correction goodies like special tie-rod ends, offset bushings for the steering rack, etc.

Yeah I just lowered it last ngiht with a set of Eibach Pro-kit, still waiting to get aligned, but the handling issue was before I lowered it, i'm just hoping the bigger rear wheels will help.

Hey Sonic, you say your car will dart when on uneven roads, mine does exactly this and I also notice it when stoppin, what the heck causes this cuz it makes the car really hard to drive, the stock wheels tires were much better driving. I have FR500 wheels, is it possible teh front offsets are wrong or something? I thought they were all the same.

You are just running a wider tire. You have a greater contact patch on the pavement, so your car is tracking more.
