Default What is this?

The rear strut/shock is the vertical thing; what is the sideways thing? Is it a dampener another shock? Should it be replaced, for some reason i always though it was a a shock. Feel like a newb asking this question but I've never seen it on any other car other than mustangs.

Also, I think im going with strange adjustable shock/struts, anyone feel like i should spend the extra cash and get something different.

That's the transverse or quad shock, it's not really needed. It's there for lateral movement.

Ok cool... i always thought it was another shock; just never seen them before.

Edit: i think im just gonna leave the stock ones on there. Everything else on the entire rear is being replaced but I guess ill just leave those.

If you ever decided to replace your upper and lower control arms, you can remove those quad shocks. Until then, keep them on!
