Default transmission problem?

I own a 2000 mustang gt and just replaced the clutch thinking it would fix my problem. Lately my transmission has been grinding into gears and will not down shift while driving. It up shifts fine and will down shift at a complete stop. The clutch I changed out only had 2500 miles on it and was installed at a shop. I thought this was odd to be a clutch problem because it was like brand new. When I pulled the transmission to change the clutch I noticed that there was gear oil in the transmission not atf dexron 3. Does anyone think this transmission problem isbecause ofthe wrong fluid? Or is this a possible clutch cable problem. The clutch disengages and engages just fine but to me it seems like the transmission is going out. When I back up I hear a clunking noise coming from the transmission. It almost sounds like a blown rear end but I just had the whole rear end rebuilt and is bullet proof, so it can’t be that. I feel the shop should replace my transmission for using the wrong fluid.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Dont know much about fluid for a T-45, but definitely sounds like your synchronizers in the tranny are toast.

I dont know if that would cause it to grind, but like coolaid said the synchronizers are bad. When they put more fluid in they should of used AOD Fluid. If you need a tranny I havea T45. P.M me if interested

Do you guys think the gear oil the shop used in my transmission screwed it up? Because it was supposed to have ATF not 90w gear oil. Would the wrong oil not lube properly and completly destroy my tranny?

90W haha. that oil is going to put a hell of a lot of pressure and heat on your 3650 (or t45). the shop should be help responsible, but prove they are the ones that put it in there. they will just claim you did it, and give you the finger.

Maybe to question one and Yes to question two.

Dextron is WAAaaayyyy thinner than gear oil. Incorrect lubrication (weight of oil and properties)will keep the critical components of the tranny from being lubricated because the oil is too thick to reach it or the friction and pressure it can tolerate are different.

Have them do a COMPLETE FLUSH of the gear oil and put what's supposed to be in there. It shoudl hopefully resolve your problem. If not, then a new tranny is in order.

when they flush it, (WHICH SHOULD BE FREE DUE TO THEIR SCREW UP) check for metal shavings.

Ok thanks for the info. I saved the 90w gear oil in a bucket and have plenty of witnesses. They all watched me drain the 90w out. I also have the old clutch and components. On the receipt I have, it doesn’t say what kind of gear oil they used. Itsays, transmission fluid and the price. They should be responsible for a brand new transmission.
