Default XCAL question

Hey I have a SCT Xcal and I was wondering, I know that they lock it to your car but why can't I read DTCs off any car? I dont' want to change any setting I only want to read some DTC's.

you should be able to read off any ford car.

there is a gm version and a dodge version i believe also?

Just Fords, there are different versions for GM and Dodge.
