Default AUTOMATIC GUYS READ.

Has anybody here done anything to their transmission? I want to shift harder and faster. I was going to put a Shift kit(trans-go) and bunch of people say trans go is crap, or any other shift kit. I've also heard that with the tuner is not the way to firm your shifts, that you can mess up your trans., by putting to much pressure on it. What does a Valvebody do? I heard of the J-Mod but I'm not comfortable doing that myself and no shoparound here wants to do it either. So what's a guy like me to do??? I know a torque converter will help but I don't want to do that yet, unless that's the only thing that's going to help my stang. I love my auto stang but I want way faster shifts at least at WOT. What to do?

firmer shifts = more pressure = more heat. i highly suggest a tranny cooler

2002vert I know I'll need a cooler but in your opinion what does it take to make my trans shift harder?

Not to hijack the thread but im sure teos03... would like to know also, if he doesnt already. I have an auto also and my transmission lines go into the radiator, therefore being a cooler for the tranny. When you guys say we need a cooler, do you mean an after market cooler? Removing the lines from the radiator and connecting them to a better aftermarket tranny cooler?

Yes he means an aftermarket transmission cooler, I believe its an add on. I guess the cooler that ford puts on there its not enough therefore installing an aftermarket helps the trans to run cooler.

i have a 98gt i had a shop put a shift kit in a couple years ago i forget what kind? along with my 3.73 (i see you have 4.10) it doesnt miss a beat!!!!!!
i put a diablo tuner in the other day and it too helped firm the shift points. i dont have a trany cooler, but would recommend a shift kit and whatever tuner your pro shop uses. good luck

danm, that's a nice car mettofish. Have you run at the track? if so, what do you run in the 1/8th?
I guess if nobody knows much about automatics, I'll have to go with a tuner and firm the shifts that way. Until I know of a way to do it the right way.

With my gears and tune, sometimes I think my car is going to break my neck the shifts are so firm. Many of us only firm our shifts with tuners...

A tranny cooler is on my list of things to buy. Most are under $100 and are supposed* to be easy to install.

A stall is a good thing also...but all it does is allow you to launch at a higher RPM. It doesn't have anything to do with shift firmness, as far as I know.
