Default backfire?

hey guys....noticed something the other day that made me worry a lil

I had this new edge 6 cylmessing with me the other day Well I shifted down to 3rd (going around 60-65) and showed him my taillights from a distance.

Anyways, I redlined it in 3rd (obviously) and maybe I went a lil too far into the redline (I'd say 6200 rpm just to give a number) well it backfired....loud as hell

It's done this one other time, just when I redline pretty hard in 3rd.....what's causing this? and should I worry? Mods in sig....

Not sure about the 96, but on the 99-04 I would say maybe the rev limiter kicked in and at that point the timing retards, fuel delivery cuts out etc.
In other words, anything can happen.
