Default Painting Wheels(How-To)

Well following in OXFORDGT's footsteps....I told my friend that we should paint his wheels white. So here is a how to with pictures for anyone wanting to do it.....its super easy.

1. We bought/gathered the supplies: Primer, Color(White), and Clear Spray Paint, 600 Grit Sand Paper, Windex, Cloth, Tape, and Newspaper.

2. Spray the wheel down with Windex and wipe off to clean.

3. Sand down the wheels with 600 Grit Sand Paper, so its smooth to the touch.

4. Tape off the wheel.

5. Spray Primer(2 Coats), 10 minutes in between coats.

6. Spray Color(white), 2 coats, 10 minutes between

7. Spray Clear, 2-3 Coats, 10 minutes in between

8. Final Results

What does everyone think???

Looks nice until a rock gets up in there or better yet brake dust and then you have to use degreaser that will spot up the paint! If you ever do it again (it looks mighty good by the way) There is stuff call POR-15 that sells on Ebay. AWESOME stuff. It's 100% pliable flexible hit it with a hammer absolutely will not crack ever and it heat resistant! You have to properly seal it for direct sunlight applications, but you don't need to primer because it bonds to almost anything that's free of dirt! It's phenominal stuff!

Personally I prefer dark wheels on a white car but that's a matter of personal taste.

However I would have taken the balance weight off first. Next time you change tires you'll have to paint them again when the weight has been removed. Plus get stick on balance weights next time.

I had my wheels grit blasted, powder coated and fitted with a 1" spacer at the rear.

Not to bad. If ever feel like going slightly more high tech. Go to harbor freight (tools) pick up a powder coat gun for 50 bucks. Use and old conventional oven (can usually pick those up in a classified ad cheap). Then your setup to powder coat anything you can fit in the oven!

i painted the whells on my previous car and it looked great for about 2 months untill the clearcoat started to peel off, watch out for that, you may want to add a couple morecoats of clear, also a couple coats of wax will probly help.

Sounds good. I'll have to look for that stuff when I go to paint my wheels. Good info!
