Default O2 questions...

I installed my exhaust 2 weeks ago. Bassani catted X with Flowmaster 40 series catback. Everything went smooth. Screwed all the sensors back in. Sounds amazing. Yesterday the check engine light came on. I had a friend plug it in and got P0420 and P0430. Something about the catalytic emisions not being right in Bank1 and Bank 2. He cleared them out and I went for a drive. I drove about 15 miles, and no light.

If it comes back on, what the hell do those codes mean exactly and what can I do to fix it?

Do I need to upgrade my O2 sensors?

Will the XCAL 2 fix it?

On a side note, my gears are getting installed monday, and I just ordered my XCAL 15 minutes ago.

I read you need to have MIL eliminators to resolve the check engine light issue.

The codes indicate that the PCM thinks the catalytic converters are not doing their job (low efficiency), here's the full text of the shop manual diagnostics for P0430 (P0420 is the same, just bank 1):The XCal will let you disable the rear O2 sensors which will fix the issue...

So then what is the point of buying a catted mid pipe if it isnt even going to pass inspection?

Sweet. Thanks cliffy.

BlkGT, I went with catted to hopefully have no problems with inspections, but also for more torque. Cats = more torque. No cats = more HP less torque. At least that's what I have read.

The only reason i was thinking about getting a catted midpipe was so i wouldnt have to worry about inspections. But since it doesnt matter, i think that o/r sound 100x better.

Who the heck has said it doesn't matter? My catted X and those of numerous others function as they should, and the original poster may have any combination of the other possible causes listed creating his particular issue--calm down and work the problem...
