6k or 7k for forged bottom end?!?
i went to a shop today who has a dyno and i wanted to find prices to gey my car dynoed to see what power it has and this place charges 55 for one and 75 for 2 so i thought it was a cheaper shop cause that sounds like good prices. My plans for my car are the 14psi belt in a little but i will need forged internals for my engine or a whole new one. i thought i read like a new forged motor is like 3500 or 4k but when i asked them how much it would be to keep my motor just get forged parts they said about 6k or maybe7k for parts and installation. i am gonna look around more but is that too much $$??

That actually sounds about right for a custom built 2Vmotor along with installation, assuming that they are going to set up the base tune / break in tune, You have to keep in mind that the gaskets and the studs run over one thousand dollars not to mention all the small parts and the motor along with the machine work will cost you in the ball parts of 4000.00 to 5500. Depending on the parts used, and when you build a motor you will want to use a new oil cooler and oil pump while you are there. I might be wrong but I think this is a good price for a modular motor. I normally charge along with a tune about 11k I can actual post up all the bull crap small parts that you will need along with prices and then you can see if it is fair. But I would be shocked if the bill doesn’t turn out to actually be around 10k after it was all done. I have seen shop give killer deals when you walk in then after they pull it apart kit you with little things here and there and they do it in such away where you just say ok and then in the end bam now that 5k motor along with all the little things you needed cost you 10-12k I know it sucks but that is the reality of the situation.
I normally do 4V cobra stuff thus is also a little diffrence in price

how much can a stock block hold, like if i were to keep my motor and get forged internals because the only performance i will be doin is the 14psi belt and stage 2 blower cams. and also i was sayin the price of 6-7k is if i were to keep my motor just get new internals which were stronger

Ok guys here is my motor
Stock Iron block
Oliver Billet Rods
Chp pistons
Kellogg crank
( this is “just forged internals”
Comp stage 3 cams
2.2 kennie bell
Some exhaust
Automatic trans
Cage
SRA (solid rear axle)
Tube k member (that I built)
Ported stock heads
And that is about it other than the normal bolt ons
oh and VT charger 10k for just a long block IRONnot counting all the bull **** small parts that you will need

I run 18PSI on a stock block HP estamated around 1040 BHP ( this is according to the weight of the car and the trap speed on a racing calculator) I think it is around 630RWHP personaly

So far as the 7-8K, that seems like one hell of a ripoff. My local performance shop charges 85 bucks an hour, and thats quite a bit really so far as mechanic shops go. Your looking at around 3400-4400 for a complete (already assembled) VT shortblock. That leaves you (if you figure it in the middle) about 4k on install... or FOURTY SEVEN hours of labor... its not going to take anywhere near that long.
Just know though that it isn't as simple as throwing in the shortblock and then upping the boost to 14 PSI. Assuming you have the standard 42 lb/hr injectors and SVT pump (or equivilent) you will more than likely need another injector upgrade and a new fuel system (like a cobra tank with dual pumps). You might get away with what you have, but from what I have seen/heard/researched you really need the a bigger injector than 42s and a better fuel pump to make the 500+ a full boltons/shortblock/FI car will make.
On top of that, your going to need a retune, and unless you already haveit a new MAF. I am unsure about the bypass on the KB setups but you may need another one of those as well.
not to mention you can pretty much kiss the stock trans goodbye at 500+.. it might last awhile but its only a matter of time. Assuming your sig list is up to date if i were you I would be looking into other stuff first, like suspension mods and a rebuild for your 8.8
