Tire and track question

Do you need to go up in tire size or down in tire size to decrease your rpm's at the track.(ex: My g/f has a 94gt with 4.10's, 26' tiresand at the end of the 1/8 her cars rpms are at about 5500. If I went with a 28' tire what would her rpm's be at the end of the 1/8.... Higher than 5500 or lower than 5500.

RE: Tire and track question

i think itwill lower it

RE: Tire and track question

For sure lower. The taller tire has the effect of reducing the effective rear end gear ratio.

RE: Tire and track question

So since my g/f has 4.10's on a 26' tire and sheswitches to a 28' tire it would be like she had 3.73's (as for rpm's)

maybe close to it

RE: Tire and track question

I think down in street/strip ROTM has a calcuator that will tell you what RPM you will turn if you input tire size/gear ratio and transmission ratio.

The only problem with going with the taller tire is the loss of accelration off the line and thru the run, as it will effectivly have a longer gear ratio during the run.
