Motive vs FRPP 4.10 gears
The motive performance 4.10 gears are $130 on mustangtuning.com while the FRPP 4.10s are $190. Is there any reason i should NOT go with the motive performance?? mustangtuning says that motive performance performs just as well as the FRPP but cheaper.

RE: Motive vs FRPP 4.10 gears
Motive has different level of gear quality (not bad and good, just power ratings) The motive gear is a good gear, but they typically need a lot of shimming to set-up. You can quickly make up the difference between FMS (FRPP) gears and the motives in the price of the carrier shims if needed and more pinon shims.
The FMS on average only require 0.010" of shim to set up.
They have gotten expensive though. I bought mine a year ago for 130 with shipping from Mustangtuning.

sorry that was all chinese to me lol. what does "shimming" mean. i'm giving the gears to a shop, so do i need to buy something extra with the motive gears as opposed to the FRPP??

Shimming refers to the set up of the gears. The shims are used to get the correct meshing so no uneven wear occurs. Some kits come with shims, some don't. If you bring it to a shop they should have the shims there and may not charge you more for them.

Well you can get a speed cal unit for about 100 bucks, or you can pick up a tuner for 400, ot if it is an auto you can pick up a speedo gear, or ford can flash your ecu for gears up 3.73.
Choice is yours. I had speed cal, sold it to Dan02 and now have a Predator. Just need to get teh 4.10 in and I will be much happier. DAMN SPRING WON"T YOU COME!!
