it's like this, i'll be goin 40 in 3rd at 2,100 RPM's then i'll downshift to 2nd with out breaking and that raises the rpms of course and lets it slow down til i can just downshift to 1st normally and then i break when i shift into 1st. do you think thats bad?

im sure downshifting to first is not the best thing u could do.... i downshift all the time, gotta love the sound... but i never downshift using first ... once im at 2nd i just start braking and then i put it in first when i have compeltlt or almost completly stoped... i dont want to take a chance with first gear even though the ford manual actually says its ok to downshift to 1st goign 15mph or less

yea exactly, i brake when downshifting to 1st. it's from 3rd to 2nd where i don't even brake at all, i'll just let the downshift slow the car down. thats not bad? is it?

my opinion on it is going from 40 in 3rd to 2nd isnt too bad. if u do it too much i'm assuming it'll end up being bad in the long run. but again thats just my opinion, i'm in 5th gear at 40 lol

I don't shift to 1st until I am completely stopped. But, to answer your question, shifting from 3rd to second won't hurt your engine or transmission at 30 or lower MPH. I've been driving since I was 16. I am now 61.

guys this is easy- braking causes stress right?
It causes wear and tear so either way you brake your causing some wear and tear all be it minimal or not. wear and tear causes break downs, thats either your brake pads or rotors, or if you downshift transminssion added wear on clutch and extra wear on engine. downshifting is fun makes the car scream and bark if you got a nice exhast set-up, where you downshift and get the crackle and popping noise that gives me a hard on, i say do it when you feel like being sprited, but i say use your brakes more then downshifting, think about it what costs more to fix or replace brake pads and rotors, or transmissions, clutches and engines?
-just my 2 cents

It's not so bad if you ease out of the clutch, if you rev to match RPMS and just pop the clutch that's some nasty negative stress being put on your internals.

I like to downshift and make her sing, I have a new shortblock so I'm not afraid to beat her up to get some attention pulling up to a light. [8D]

If you match it right, it doesnt hurt at all, when you "ease off the clutch" your burning up your clutch bad.

Edit - Down****ing from 2nd to 1st either by easing off the clutch, or reving, IS bad, dont do it. Too much torque to do it.
