Avoid spilling oil on steering rack?
Anyone managed to figure out a way to avoid covering the steering rack w/oil when changing the oil filter? At this point I've given up and just accepted that there will be a cleanup involved.

I have a piece of metal roof flashing thats bent in a slight "V" that I slip under the filter and it directs the oil right into the drain pan, no fuss, no muss. You could probably use a piece of heavy cardboard too, good luck.

I have a small hose fitting that I've managed to get to the same size as the hole and there is a smaller ring inside of it that fits perfectly with the bolt, so I just loosen the bolt and shove the ring over the bolt and start hand loosening like normal. I also used a pump before, and pumped the oil out from the top

I punch a hole in the filter and let most of the oil drain out before removing it--still a bit messy though, a disposable diaper works well to absorb and direct the flow, and keep oil off of the running gear...
