I've been the biggest advocate of stock gearing probably on this site, just because I hate how short first and second gear are in 4.10 cars. I'd still say for a fairly stock car onstreet tiresthe 3.27's are better, due to finishing the quarter at the very end of 3rd instead of the begining of 4th.(Aka stock geared car puts down more power towards the end of the quarter mile).
That said, my car is becoming a project/drag car... I just spent over 2k on my rear end.... and I was buying the last thing (complete bearing kit for the rear) from summit and it severely pained me to click the 3.73's. Haha, I surrender my car will now have 3.73s. Gah.... i'm going to be bitter the way it drives on the street, i'm partial to the stock 3.27s.

[sm=wakeup.gif]Stock gears suck! If you were happy with the 3.27's, get ready for a nice surprise.

Well, you will soon understand how a steeper gear improves many things other than off-the-line acceleration...
The increased ratio decreases the stress on the clutch, transmission, and overall drivetrain (well, not the axles but you'll be fine on street tires). They don't hinder in-town gas mileage and highway gas mileage is only slightly affected by 3.73's...

I hope you are right, as I too was happy with stock gears but am awaiting the completion of my 3.73 install as we speak. I had a guy with an '89 notch tell me I won't notice a difference.
