if all your wanting is a sound change you should be looking into your midpipe and catback. It will make a difference (somewhat) in sound but nothing like the mid/catback, and its a large expense just for sound.
What are you wanting to change about your sound? If all your looking for is more volume get your midpipe on, if thats not enough either change your mufflers or try going with dumps (just pull your pipes off the mufflers and test drive it a little to see if you like it).

I have BBK shorties on mine. Don't like um. But I have a 328hp N/A motor, that getting choked all to hell by not having LT's so my opinion may be useless.

RE: Guys WITH shorty headers
I had BBK tuned-length on my 2v motor. They went on with a bunch of other stuff at the same time, so I can't really say what the impact was.
Lesson learned, shorties don't do much of anything vs. stock, except they are more prone to exhaust leaks.
On my 4v motor, I kept the stock exhaust manifolds... wanted to stay smog-legal, and shorties are worthless.
