My friend had a '96 or '97 T-Bird and he took it to the track and ran a 15.8 and a 15.9. They are pretty slow cause they have about 200 hp at the crank.

No they don't make a ton of power. They are NPI 4.6's.

BUT

you will not find a better riding car that is more comfortable to drive everyday. Which is why I have owned a 94 and a 95.

they are such a pain in the *** to make any power out of them. You basically have to buy mustang parts and then modify them slightly to get them to fit. They ride and handle awesome though. I have a 96 sport, and it handles much better than my stang. There are a few guys over at tccoa.com that have dropped 5.4's in them and others that have 351's in them.

I had my 95 for 8 years. I modified it here and there and like what was posted I usually had to make mods of mustang stuff. I had the Jmod, 3.73's, PI swap and it was still slow. It rode nice on the Eibachs I had but I switched over to "J" code springs and was even better. It's gone now and I will never go back.

Bottom line is keep your Mustang. You won't be happy with a Thunderchicken.

You should look into get a Super Coupe. It would be the best of both worlds. It's fairly quick and still a nice ride. That or a Mark VIII

You won't be happy if you are looking for all out performance. MN12 are a HEAVY chassis to try to build a fast car out of. They however for a daily driver are not a compromise. It's big, comfortable, has a somewhat usable (definitely more than a Mustang) back seat, and makes enough power to get on the freeway plenty fast enough. Rides INFINITELY better than a Mustang with a solid axle (they are an IRS car designed around the IRS unlike Cobras whose IRS was an afterthought)

They have their issues just like every other car, Plastic intake that plagues Mustangs is also on these cars, transmissions aren't the greatest, and at this point they are just getting old. I love mine and will continue to own one unless I just can't afford to keep it anymore.

I had a 94 5 speed. Was a MF to work on but the performance was better than my 95.
