This might be a stupid question but i'd really like to know..can someone tell what what purpose this part in the picture has and if it's bad in any way for the car to remove it. When I installed my CAI it looked like an extra filter and i thought by taking it off i could unrestrict some air. i took this box off and the tube attached, and replaced it with a straight piece of tube from the auto parts shop. my cars having stumbling problems when i try to accelerate quickly and I thought this might be related somehow. any answers would be appreciated..

That is the Idle Air Control valve muffler. Do a search on here for IAC Muffler and you will find all the answers you are looking for.

That wouldnt cause problems when you accelerate.
