how soon the spark is fired in relation to where the piston is at. the timing is reffereing to how many degrees before top dead center. Top dead center is where the piston is at the very top of its stroke. So, the spark plugs are fired before the piston reaches the top, the idea is to give the explosion a head start so that by the time the piston reaches the top of the stroke the cylinder pressure is where it should be. The faster the rpm's, the more addition timing is needed to get to the optimum advance. Blah hope that made sense.

Timing is when the spark plug fires for the cylinder. when they changed from 10 to 14 they advanced the timing 4 degrees. This helps in producing more HP. But does come with side effects if to much and depending on the application. 1 degree can make the difference between a strong motor and a pinging motor.

Typical nitrous applciations run at stock or retarded because if predetonation occurs the motor could destroy it self. Advanceing the timing is usually done in N/A applications and the 4.6 responds very well to advanced timing. Typically people fun between 12-14 degrees of advnace. Keep inmind the motor is already 10degrees advance= 22-24 degrees of timing. Typical hand held tuners allow a maximum of 10% over there inital tune. Predator pumps the timing to 20degrees advanced and allows and additional 10% of advancement.

Predator bumps it up 10degrees over the factory timing of 10degrees, giving a total advance of 20degrees on the predator stock tune. You can bump it up an additional 10% or 2 degrees. I just got played with it a bit but won't really be able to do anything with it till spring.

Plan on putting on a dyno before I go bumping the timing up from the probably conservitive Diablo sport tune.

If you get a predator make sure you update to the new program rb7c I think, has a revised tune for the GTs.
