RE: Tap for vortech oil pan...
By tapered you mean a punch that grows in diameter when working your way toward the *** end of it from the tip right?
Yea it will be tapered, assuming I can friggin find one. Might just pick up a 1/2" tapered one and do the sharpy method (makes sense right?), assuming I can find me a caliper to measure.

For the punch, check industrial stores like grainger etc, espcially ones that offer large catalogs.
You don't need a punch exactly that size though, what you need is a large punch with a taper. What I ended up doing was starting it with a starter punch, and then buying a large punch. I took a caliper and measured the shaft till I found the correct size (stated in the manual) and then I took a sharpy marker and marked all the way around it. I ended up cutting off about 1/2 the punch since it was so large (so it wouldn't be so long and I could hit it) and then you simply tap it into the pan until the sharpy line you made is just hitting the hole or slightly inside it.
It sounds complicated, but its simple lol. On the tap, +1 what they said.

RE: Tap for vortech oil pan...
i paid about 9 bux for the tap. and a 3/8" NPT tap is waay bigger than 0.375", you'll see once you get it. just look at the oil drain assembly
edit: just remembered that this is the same size tap if your running the threaded lightning IAT sensor
