Default port and polish

I have a friend who says he can port and polish my heads. Would this be worth it?. and will it reduce the life of my engine...

It will make little to no difference if that's the only mod you do (I.e. no cams, f/i, etc.), and I would certainly not recommened pulling the heads off a well-running engine just to do a P&P. Also. the potential problems that might arise if not done right (leaking head/manifold gaskets, possibility of coolant getting into the bores, etc.) IMHO far outweigh any benefit that a port job alone will provide. Porting and polishing will get rid of any casting defects and extra material in the heads, as well as smoothing out airflow, resulting in increased air velocity in the heads, giving some HP. In itself, it does not reduce the life of the car, but a good port and polish is labor intensive and costs a LOT- a cheap one can damage or break your heads, or even worsen air flow.
