Mine is functional. I have had ZERO issuesdue toany water getting into the engine bay. Besides if it does I have a feeling that your motor will be warm enough to boil it on contact. Think about what the water is going to have to go through. If you drill holes in the honeycomb (what I did)and then just cut out the obvious section to cut out the water has to work its way through all that then land on the hot engine and cause an issue there.

My only complaint is since F/I and especially since the aluminum intake a lot more hot air gets into the cabin of the car and it can cook your feet.
thank you! did this seem to help? you have any pics?

Go ahead and cut it open. Mine has been cut open for 3 years and not a single problem. It does cool your intake quite a bit at freeway speeds.

for those of you that have drilled the honeycomb and cut the hood, when you clean your car is it a bitch to dry around the scoop still or does that little mod help it ????

JW how many of the guys who have done this also use their cars as DD's. That is seeing rain for a prolonged period of time. Not that saying that I'm opposed to it but it stills gets me a little nervous to allow water to get in there with all the electrical wires under the hood. I think if Ford wanted to make it functional they would have doneit and taken the necessarysteps to make sure it was safe. But heck I'm even scared to wash the engine bay so what do I know lol.

its not like you can cut the hood (if you do youre an idiot) they have shaker systems that come with a Mach 1 style hood, but id worry about hydrolocking issues with that (only me personally, some people love the shaker system). thats your best bet. have heard they are a PITA to install though
thanks for the very informative opinion there. If you dont like the idea stay off the thread.
I didnt ask for a mach 1 shaker system
