RPM drops and engine stalls

RPM drops and engine stalls
Lately, i've been having this problem. When I start the car the RPM drops dramatically below 0 and the engine would just shut off. I've been burning my clutch by holding onto the gas because i need to get to work. When i stop ata redlight i would have to keep my feet on the gaswhile holdingonto the clutch.
Once the engine gets warm, it drives normal. Does anyone know what the problem is?

What is IAC? I wonder if it has something to do with my engine light. It came on 2 month ago for about a week and went off. The car has about 45k miles. I bought it at 38k miles. I don't know if the air intake filter needs to be cleaned. how often should I clean it?

IAC= Idle Air Control. If your IAC is messed up, then you wont be getting the right air into the mixture and you stall.
i have never had a problem with mine, but from other people i have seen on here and other people i know in person, the IAC seems to have problems quite often with mustangs.

I've had the same problem, cleaning the IAC will temporarily fix it.I still have the problem on occasion, and cleaning it fixes it again. It probably needs replacing.
The IAC (idle air control) valve sits at the top and center of your engine,it has an electrical connector, two mounting bolts and is mounted to the throttle body.It is simple to remove and replace,I used carburetor cleaner and a cotton swab, this should fix it if it is the same problem I had.
My problem is a surge when sitting at a stop light with the AC on,if I dont have the brake on,it would rear-end the car ahead of me,any suggestions? Thanks AJ
PS: I am looking for a driver door and fender for a 99 Mustang 4.6

Yeah, I had this same problem last week and went to Napa and picked up a new one for $65 after tax. It takes less than 5 minutes to take off and put on. Car hasn't stalled since. If you cant afford that go pick up some carb cleaner and spray it down and clean with some swabs like the above post said...that helped me a bit, but i didn't want to chance it happening again, losing power breaks/steering, so i just had napa order me one. It took them less than a day. They are cheaper there than autozone too.
