I don't see the point in deviating from the recommended weight. Ford built them, they would know better than Autozone or any of us. And I bought Mobil 1 fully synthetic, and it says directly on the bottle that friction modifier is NOT required.

Well I understand but I havent been told what the exact weight of the gear fluid I should be running. And some do contain the friction modifier, autozone didnt have mobil, or royal purple, redline.

Really damn stupid auto zone didnt have any other than Lucus but i dont know if it was for small cars cause it has a big rig and like heavy duty formula. So i didnt get it.

Yeah, you have to remember that our GT rear ends are all 8.8. and that is the same as in Explorers...etc.

I read ya.

Ok, here's the specs...

--oil--

type = motorcraft SAE 80W90 premium rear axle lubricant (GL-5)
amount = 3.75 pints (for the 8.8 in axle)

--additive friction modifier--

type = ford spec c8az-19b546-a/est-m2c118-a
amount =One 4 oz bottle

The above came out of my 99 GT 4.6L manual. I then cross checked theinfo with the Haynes manual (ford mustang 1994 thru 2003) in case you have a different year car and it's the same.

i was abotu to do mine as well, doe anyone know what kind of bolt or screw holds the fill plug in? mine is liek sunken into the diff,

I just finished mine 10 mins ago, and just use your socket wrench with out the socket and loosen it like that.
