Default Cat Back

So I'm getting ready to order BBK long tubes and catted x pipe, but have a question. What makes a catback a catback? When I bought my car it had 3.5" tips, but had the stock mufflers. I swapped the mufflers out for Flowmaster 40s, but now I'm not sure if I will need to puchase a catback. Will the diameter of the mid pipe fit the take offs(is that what they are called?), or canI just use the stock catback? If i do need a new catback, what will sound good?

well...lots of people change out the midpipe first like youre doing, and keep the stock catback...the big difference is stock catback is 2 and a quarter inches, and after market ranges from 2 1/2 to 3.

try out the midpipe first, and see how you like it...I say go for a slp midpipe, so you can interchange your cats...and make it catted, and catless when ever you want...IMHO

+1 and you restrict SOME airflow by having the air go through a 2.5" midpipe to 2.25" tailpipes...i dont think its enough to worry about but its nice to have a uniform exhaust...im in the same boat as you...previous owner welded in 2.25 flowmaster 40s which restricts airflow from my 2.5" o/r prochamber...ill hopefully be buying a new catback soon

I was originally planning on an SLPx pipe but the SLPLTs are way out of my budget [:@].IfI keep the stock catback will the restriction of flow eventually cause problems?

Got it, I guess I'll keep the stock catback for now and eventually buy an after market one, since the LTs + midpipe + installation = huge hole in my pocket. Man, there is just no cure for the mod bug . Thanks for the info. tylers66mustang and Gar4pt6.

for sure...if you are mechanically inclined to the slightest degree you could probably install the midpipe on your own (and by on your own i mean with a friend)...but if you are getting LTs done at the same time you might as well just have them do it
