How did you know you used too much? Don't see how you could get anything in the tranny itself. I just want to replace the sealant with the gasket to reduce vibration. I don't see the point in using both. The whole idea of the gasket to make removal easier unless you are talking about putting the sealant only on one side of the gasket.

I also have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with a B&M short throw (never buy one). I used the sealant and it works fine but its just too messy and I want the installation to be easy. It was just too hard to move the shifter around on top of the transmission to line the holes up. Thanks for all the input guys, I'll order a gasket from CobraBob.
