Default tire size question

I just bought a 2001 Mustang GT and I have no idea about them. I have stuck to my fox for along time and need help on tires. It said on a website that I could fit 275/40/17 on it and I just need to know if it filling me with junk or if it is good info. If you can fit them is it worth it? or does anyone have anyother suggestions?????

On the stock 17x8 wide wheels, you can go up to 275 on them..... But you can always step up to 17x9s in the front and 17x10.5s in the back to get a 275 wide front and 315 wide in the back.

Yeah but I am broke and would love to put the bigger wheels but just dont have it. Will the 275's tires rub or anything and is it worth the price jump from the 245's

No 275s wont rub on anything. But they will wear down faster because of the "bubble" effect it gets from a skinnier wheel. Its not bad though.

Tread wear on those is good but the traction could be better. Your looking for a tire withan "AA" traction rating and an "A" heat rating. They'll last a good 30k but I think you may be disappointed with its performance.

275's fit in the front too? I'm getting tires this weekend. I figured 275 would be too wide in the front

A 275/40/17 will fit up front, but in reality, there really is not any positive reason to go to a wider tire up front than you already have, that is unless you want to be able to rotate from teh front to the back.

The wider tire up front will cost more than a 245, will create more rolling resistance, and wont make the rears look any larger than they would like if you had stockers up front and larger ones in back.
