Default PI cams w/gears or w/o gears

I'm looking to do a PI intake/cams swap to my '96 GT and I'm not for sure if I need to buy cams with gears or without. The reason I'm asking is because I was hoping to avoid taking the front cover off the engine and avoid re-timing it. Thanks for your help.

It depends how many miles are on your car. If you have a lot of miles 80-100k+ I would say replace them.

I'm not sure how you are going to get the chain off and back on the gear with out removing the tensioners though. I don't know maybe there is a way that I'm not aware of but it seems to me you will need to remove the timing cover.
