Default How hard is it to Rebuild a 4.6L 2V?

Has anyone ever rebuilt a 4.6L 2V or have any tips on doing so. I've got a 2.1L Kenne Bellready to install on my car, however it has been brought to my attention thatforged internals are strongly recommended. I haven't bought any yet but I was looking at a kit from Sean Hyland Motorsports. The kit features forged crank, forgedmanley H-beam rods and forged pistons and offer either 17cc dish or 23cc dish. Anyways, I've never tore down an engine to the bare block and replace the internals, I know how to do it in theory but was looking to see if any of you have done it. Any problems, tips, recommendations, or any information at all would be appreciated.

P.S. The reason I don't get it installed professionally is because labor is way out of my budget. Hell I just bought a $4900 supercharger and about to drop $2000 on a rotating assembly.

Sounds like an awesome setup. Get the book from Sean Hyland and you can follow it step by step. If you're spending all of that money, maybe you can get it for free . It's not too hard to do, it'll just take some time. Good luck and keep us posted!

I think you can get machine/assembly work done for around 400-500 at a shop. I think it would be worth it especially since youve never done this before and it does take some skill.

It's not "hard" s in physically or mentally stressful, however it does require that you be reasonably meticulous, have the ability to understand specifications and mensuration, and be willing to purchase or otherwise obtain certain required tools and supplies--failing in any one of these will botch the job..."I saw a fella start a fire once by rubbing two sticks together, and I reckon he weren't no smarter than me." -- Jeremiah Johnson

It's not really bad if you know what you're doing. Try finding a crappy motor in a junk yard and try rebuilding that first. Nothing to worry about as far as ****ing that up. Then once you get used to the general idea and procedure of tearing down a motor, it shouldn't be that bad to do your own working motor.

I wouldnt install the internals yourself if you have never done it. These engines have very tight tolerances. Most shops will charge $150 to assemble a shortblock. I paid $2100 for internals, boring and assembly of my short block. Don't buy your kit from SHM they are way overpriced. Shop around you can find it way cheaper for parts that are just as good.

Here is my write up on how to do the rest of the build.

Best advice in the thread. The shop I use charges $250 to assemble a short block, WELL worth it IMO.
