Default valve ticking noise

Just traded my 01 GT that had 93,000 on it for a 04GT with 47,000 on it today and it has a quiet ticking noise on one of the valves but I dont know much about these motors and the OHCs and what it could be. Does anyone have a clue?

idk but my motor makes a constant hissing ticking noise that i assume is injectors or valves. almost sounds like a exhaust leak.

I dont think it is the injectors. It sounds like a real light tick on only one of the valves. I didn't know if I should just try some sea foam or what???????[sm=dontgetit.gif]

does it only do it at startup? how loud does it get when you give it gas.. stay the same, go away or get louder .. are you going through alot of oil

Considering the injectors are on top of the motor and just behind the valve covers (tucked between them actually)I'm going to say the injectors. SOHC motors areself adjusting valve lash meaning there is no adjustment necessary other than on initial assembly.

Run a really high concentration of fuel system cleaner and replace your fuel filter. You could also go to a shop and have them do a fuel injection system flush. Works way better than just adding a bunch of additive to the gas tank.

no no no no no. should never use that "fuel system treatment" **** cause it doesnt really do much but increase the cylinder temp in an attempt to "burn sh*it off" the only thing you would need to clean to see if its this noise are the valves, put some seafoam in the vacuum line above the valve cover and see what it does. if that doesnt work, check your PCV valve. hopefully its not a valve spring

Try putting better gas in it. I had the same ticking noise when I was using 87 Octane. When I switched to 91 Octane the tick went away.

timing is off if thats the case. to the OP check your timing chain, could be the beginning of it getting loose. maybe the previous owner did some work

the loudness of it stays the same when you give it gas. I just got the car and I havn't had to put fuel in it yet so it might be the car lot putting cheap gas in it and it really sounds like it is coming from the back of the intake really. I drove the **** out of it on the test drive and was almost hitting the rev limiter and did acouple of times while spinning off a red light so I dont think it is a valve spring. I am really leaning to the injector idea. I am going to try some sea foam into a vacum line and also put some in the tank and see what happens. if anyone else has an idea please let me know.
