seafoam in the valve covers, just to make sure its not a sticking valve. hope its not a valve spring. theres another post like this one, i put some ideas in there to check out.
wouldn'tI be able to hear a valve spring from the engine compartment better than in the car?
i guess it depends. do you hear you A/C click inside the cab when you turn it on? cause i do. some things for some reason you pick up on better inside the cab cause alot of the exhaust and engine noise in general is cut down. like a bad pulley, you lift the hood up you can hear it. put the hood down get in the cab and it is absolutely irritating. and FTR, ive never heard a bad valvespring but i know it ticks and its not very noticeable in general at first...

Sounds like you have a bad lash adjuster. It is drainig to much and has to get pressurer back in it to function properly.

I am still having this problem. It is definately not a lack of oil, cause I checked it this morning before starting and it read full. Then on the start, then same old tick-ta-tick-tick (lasts about as long as it takes to say that), then normal engine sound.

I still have no idea what a lash adjuster is, so if someone could clue me that would be great.

Also, I have heard of the timing tensioners going bad. Could that be the problem?

A lash adjuster is like a lifter and pushrod in a pushrod motor. As the cam follower rides the lobe of the cam the follower rolls back and the lash adjuster stops it from rocking back to far and loosing contact with the cam and then it forces the follower back up. If the oil drains out of it it will not have pressure in it to do its job. You just need to find which one it is and replace it.

I don't know how you would ever be able to come to that conclusion. I suppose I should try to get a sound clip of it for all to hear, since it sounds like a rare problem.

Thanks ox!
