New Pulleys

New Pulleys
I am getting ready to replace my pulleys w/lighter (alloy) ones on my 2000 GT. I called my mechanic (I always go to the same guy if I need repairs) and asked if he could do that for me and how much that would cost... and he asked me, "What puleys? Alternator? Water pump? Other?.."
He doesn't know much if anything about performance tuning (he's an older foreign guy) but I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know what to answer him either! From the pics I've seen on mustangtuning.com and other places, it looks like the pulleys are usually sold in sets of three.
Can anyone tell me _which exact pulleys_ are normally replaced? Any advice as to which kind (brand) is best would also be appreciated!
PS I just went outside and looked under the hood of my Mustang... and counted like 8 pulleys! So why do we only replace 3?..

RE: New Pulleys
you replace those three because they have the biggest effect performance wise. When you change the crank pulley to a smaller pulley, it will slow down every accessory (since it is a drive pulley), thus drawing less power from the engine. Also, by changing the water pump and alternator pulley to a larger pulley, it will reduce the engine load even more (because they are driven pulleys).
Hope this helps

Thanks! But isn't it bad for the performance of other parts to slow them down?.. I'm not building a race track car, it's my daily driver. So I should just get lighter alloy pullies that are standard size, right?

RE: New Pulleys
Well this is how I see it... I live in Tx where the temperature reaches 110* in the summer and I never once overheated or pasted by the mark where it sat at when stock. On top of that I run my A/C, the radio, a radar detector and the lights even during the day and I never once experienced any voltage problems. Steeda Underdrives are a great upgrade.
