Rear end dying?

when i bought my car the previous owner had installed 4.10 gears and i havent had any problems up until now.
i saw the rear end seeping a little bit of oil (barely noticeable) one day, so i checked all the bolts and a few of them were looser than they should have been, so i tightened them down. since, the seeping has become very minimal, if i leave my car parked for a week i will find a little spec on the ground. i think that since the car sat for so long before i bought it, the gasket might be dried out, leading to the seepage.

here is the recent problem.. im experiencing some gear "rock". i dont know if its from low oil level or if the gears were installed improperly, but it seems as if everything isnt as tight as it should be. i plan on opening it up this weekend and replacing the oil either way.. but is there anything i should be looking out for? any other possible problems i might have caused from driving with too little oil?

RE: Rear end dying?

if you drive with low diff fluid it will eventually cause the gears to run hotter then they should and cause premature wear. there is a way to check the end play with the diff cover off but unless you have a dial indicator its hard to judge.
