just to clarify, the alt didn't blow the sensor out especially since it's a halls effect sensor, it was only interfering with the signal that it sends to the PCM (both the cps and alt are on the same harness)

I am not a mechanic so I don't know the correct terminology. All I know is I did my research and read that a bad alternator can blow out the cam shaft sensor. I replaced the alternator and the problem was fixed. [/align][/align]Just trying to help the guy out.[/align]

I just registered so I could say 'Thank You!' for the expert help.
My 2003 GT threw the P0340 code, I parked it immediately.
I found this website that described the alternator as the solution, it was.
No CPS needed.
Your advice made a seemingly difficult problem easy to fix.
